Job Description

Mining Engineer | Indianapolis, IN | Direct Hire

$100,000–$110,000 Base + Annual Bonus | Relocation Considered

MS Companies is partnering with an established organization in the aggregate mining and construction materials industry to hire an experienced Mining Engineer in Indianapolis, IN.

This is an opportunity to take your mine-planning experience beyond the desk. Reporting to the Senior Mine Engineer, you’ll help develop and execute short- and long-term mine plans across a network of active quarry operations , with direct exposure to the projects and operational decisions that shape production, resource utilization, and the long-term development of each site.

What makes this opportunity especially compelling is its breadth. Rather than working within a narrowly defined engineering function, you’ll gain hands-on exposure across the full mining lifecycle —including mine planning, stripping and cut/fill plans, mineral reserve evaluation, drilling and coring, permitting, reclamation, and field execution—while partnering closely with operations, production, quality, project management, and safety teams.

We’re looking for a Mining Engineering graduate with professional mine-planning experience who enjoys solving complex problems, working collaboratively in the field, and seeing engineering plans translate into real-world results. Experience with AutoCAD, Carlson, aggregate/quarry operations, and MSHA-regulated environments will position you especially well for this opportunity.

If you’re looking for a role that combines technical mine planning with hands-on operational exposure and the opportunity to expand your expertise across the mining lifecycle, we’d like to connect.

What You'll Do

  • Develop and support short- and long-term mine plans focused on safe and efficient resource utilization.
  • Develop and execute mine and stripping/cut-fill plans in support of production requirements.
  • Collaborate with engineering, operations, production, quality, project management, and other stakeholders across multiple quarry locations.
  • Support mineral reserve evaluation and long-term land planning, including reclamation and reuse.
  • Coordinate activities involving zoning, permitting, drilling, and coring .
  • Assist with drilling/coring preparation, logging, and data used to develop mine plans.
  • Maintain and analyze stripping, coring, and operational data using Microsoft Excel .
  • Provide field engineering support at quarry locations throughout Indiana.

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering required.
  • Professional mining experience with demonstrated exposure to mine planning .
  • 3+ years of mining experience strongly preferred , particularly in mine planning.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Carlson, or comparable mine-planning/design software .
  • Knowledge of aggregate/quarry mining operations and fixed/mobile mining equipment.
  • Experience or knowledge related to mineral reserves and detailed mine/stripping plans.
  • Exposure to the broader mining lifecycle, including operations, project management, quality, and safety.
  • MSHA certification, training, or knowledge/exposure is highly desirable.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to travel up to 50% throughout Indiana , primarily day trips with minimal overnight travel.

The published position likewise emphasizes aggregate mining operations, mineral reserve evaluation, CAD-based mine and stripping plans, mining production/QC, Excel, and up to 50% Indiana travel.

Compensation & Travel

  • Base Salary: $100,000–$110,000
  • Annual Bonus: 10% target with potential for up to a 2x multiplier
  • Relocation: Considered for the right candidate; potential sign-on/relocation reimbursement may be available depending on distance
  • Travel: Up to 50% throughout Indiana, consisting primarily of day trips with minimal overnight travel

Our client is an established organization in the aggregate materials industry supporting the materials used to build roads, bridges, utilities, and communities throughout the Midwest .
